The Group Selection Tool selects items within a group hierarchy one level at a time. Click once to select one object, click again to select its group, and again to select the larger group.
Where to Find It
Nested under the Direct Selection Tool in the toolbar. Click and hold the Direct Selection icon to access it.
How to Use
- Single item: Click on an object within a group to select only that item.
- Sub-group: Click again to select the group containing that item.
- Full group: Click a third time to select the entire group hierarchy.

- Use when you need to edit one item in a group without ungrouping.
