Parenting creates a parent-child relationship between objects. When the parent moves, rotates, or scales, the child follows. It is essential for organizing complex scenes.
Where to Find It
Select the child, then the parent, and press Ctrl+P. Choose the parenting type.
How to Use
- Object: Standard parent — child inherits all transforms.
- Armature: Parents mesh to an armature for automatic weight painting.
- Bone: Parents to a specific bone within an armature.
- Clear: Select the child and press Alt+P to clear parenting.
Pro Tips
- Use Alt+P > Clear and Keep Transform to unparent without moving the child.
- Parent empty objects to armature bones for weapon or prop attachments.
