The Selection Tool is the most used tool in Premiere Pro. Use it to select, move, and trim clips in the timeline. It is the default tool and essential for all video editing workflows.
Where to Find It
Press V or click the arrow icon at the top of the toolbar.
How to Use
- Select: Click on any clip to select it.
- Move: Drag a selected clip to reposition it.
- Trim: Hover over the edge of a clip, then drag to trim.
- Multi-select: Hold Shift and click multiple clips.
Pro Tips
- Hold Ctrl (Cmd) to temporarily switch to the Selection Tool from any other tool.
- Double-click a clip to open it in the Source Monitor.
