The Mask Tool lets you use a shape as a mask to clip the content of layers above it. It is essential for creating image masks, text fills, and custom shape clipping.
Where to Find It
Place a shape above the content you want to mask, select both, and press Ctrl+Alt+M (Cmd+Opt+M), or right-click and choose 'Use as Mask'.
How to Use
- Create mask: Place a shape on top of the layer you want to mask, select both, then create the mask.
- Edit mask: Double-click the masked area to enter the mask group and edit individual layers.
- Remove: Right-click the masked group and select 'Ungroup' or delete the masking shape.
Pro Tips
- Use text layers as masks to fill text with image textures or gradients.
- Masks are non-destructive — you can always edit the masking shape or masked content later.
