Blend Modes change how a layer blends with the layers beneath it. They are powerful tools for creating lighting effects, textures, and compositing in Figma.
Where to Find It
Select a layer and find the Blend Mode dropdown in the Design panel under the Layer section.
How to Use
- Multiply: Darkens the underlying layers. Great for shadows and textures.
- Screen: Lightens the underlying layers. Perfect for highlights and glow effects.
- Overlay: Combines Multiply and Screen for increased contrast.
- Pass Through: Only available on groups and frames — lets blend modes inside the group affect layers below.
Pro Tips
- Use Multiply with a dark color for realistic shadow overlays.
- Use Screen with a light color for glow and lens flare effects.
