The Subdivision Surface Modifier subdivides mesh faces to create smoother, higher-resolution geometry. It is the standard modifier for organic and character modeling.
Where to Find It
Select a mesh, go to Modifiers panel > Add Modifier > Subdivision Surface.
How to Use
- Levels: Set Viewport and Render subdivision levels. 2-3 for viewport, 3-4 for final render.
- Optimal Display: Show the original cage in wireframe for cleaner editing.
- Creasing: Select edges and press Shift+E to control sharpness without adding geometry.
Pro Tips
- Use loop cuts (Ctrl+R) to create sharp edges on subdivided surfaces.
- Keep viewport levels low (1-2) for performance during modeling.
