Shape Keys store different mesh shapes as morph targets. By blending between them, you create facial expressions, breathing motions, and custom deformations.
Where to Find It
Select your mesh, go to Object Data Properties (green triangle icon), and find the Shape Keys section.
How to Use
- Add basis: The Basis shape key is created by default — this is the rest shape.
- Add new: Click the + button to add a new shape key, then edit the mesh in Edit Mode.
- Blend: Adjust the Value slider to blend between Basis and your new shape.
- Animate: Keyframe the Value property to create morph animations over time.
Pro Tips
- Use shape keys for facial rigging — create shapes for each viseme and emotion.
- Add a Key blocker to prevent one shape key from influencing another.
