Key Settings
Proxy Workflow creates lower-resolution copies of your footage for smooth editing. Your edits apply to the full-resolution originals when you export.
Where to Find It
Select clips in the Project panel, right-click > Proxy > Create Proxies. Choose a preset or custom settings.
How to Use
- Create: Select clips, right-click > Proxy > Create Proxies. Choose H.264 Low Res or custom.
- Toggle: Click the Toggle Proxies button in the Program Monitor to switch between proxy/full-res.
- Attach: Manually attach proxies by right-clicking a clip > Proxy > Attach Proxies.
- Export: Premiere automatically uses full-resolution originals when exporting.
Pro Tips
- Create proxies at 720p or 1080p for 4K/6K footage. ¼ resolution is usually sufficient.
- Use Ingest settings to automatically create proxies when importing footage.
