Lift:,Extract:.
Lift and Extract are two methods for removing content from your timeline. Lift removes the selection and leaves a gap. Extract removes the selection and automatically closes the gap by rippling all subsequent content.
Where to Find It
Make a selection with the Selection Tool, then press , (comma) for Lift or . (period) for Extract.
How to Use
- Lift: Select a clip segment, press , (comma). The segment is removed, leaving a gap.
- Extract: Select a clip segment, press . (period). The segment is removed and the gap closes automatically.
- From Source Monitor: Set in/out points in the Source Monitor and use Lift/Extract to add clips to timeline with or without gaps.
- Three-point editing: Use Lift/Extract as part of a three-point edit workflow for precise timeline management.
Pro Tips
- Use Lift when you want to replace the removed section with different footage later.
- Use Extract for quick removal of unwanted sections without manual gap cleanup.
