The Pen Tool is the most powerful drawing tool in Illustrator. It creates precise vector paths using anchor points and bezier curves. Master the Pen Tool and you can create any shape imaginable.
Where to Find It
Press P or select the pen nib icon from the toolbar.
How to Use
- Straight lines: Click to place anchor points. Each click creates a straight segment.
- Curves: Click and drag to create curved segments with direction handles.
- Close path: Click on the first anchor point to close the path.
- Open path: Press Esc or Ctrl+Click to end an open path.
Pro Tips
- Use as few anchor points as possible for smoother curves and easier editing.
- Hold Alt (Option) to break direction handles for sharp corners.
