Material Slots let you assign different materials to different parts of a single mesh object. This is essential for objects with multiple surface types — like a car body with glass windows and rubber tires.
Where to Find It
In the Material Properties panel (red sphere icon), use the Material Slots list.
How to Use
- Add slot: Click the + button to add a new material slot.
- Assign: In Edit Mode, select faces and click 'Assign' to apply the material to those faces.
- Reorder: Drag slots to rearrange the material list.
- Remove: Select a slot and click the - button to remove it.
Pro Tips
- Name your materials descriptively (e.g., 'Body Paint', 'Glass', 'Rubber') for easy identification.
- Use linked materials to share the same material across multiple objects.
