Composition Settings define the foundation of every After Effects project. Getting the resolution, frame rate, and duration right from the start prevents costly rework later. Understanding these settings ensures your final output matches the requirements for broadcast, web, or film delivery.
Where to Find
Go to Composition > Composition Settings or press Ctrl+K (Mac: Cmd+K). You can also right-click in the Project Panel and select New Composition.
How to Use
- Preset: Choose from common formats like HDTV 1080p, 720p, or 4K
- Width/Height: Set custom dimensions for your project
- Frame Rate: 24fps for film, 29.97fps for broadcast, 60fps for smooth motion
- Duration: Enter the total length in hours:minutes:seconds:frames
- Background Color: Click the swatch to choose a background color
