Best Used For
- ▸Navigate and view documents more efficiently
- ▸Add text, shapes, and annotations to designs
- ▸Set up document layout and measurement guides
Key Settings
The Type on a Path Tool allows you to place text that follows the contour of any vector path. This is perfect for creating circular logos, curved headlines, text that wraps around objects, and decorative typography.
Unlike warping text, Type on a Path flows naturally along the path's curve. The text remains fully editable, and you can adjust its position along the path at any time.
Where to Find It
It is nested under the Horizontal Type Tool (T). Click and hold the Type Tool icon, then select Type on a Path Tool from the flyout.
How to Use
- Create a path: Draw a vector path using the Pen Tool or shape tools set to Path mode.
- Select the tool: Click and hold the Type Tool icon, then select Type on a Path Tool.
- Click on the path: Click directly on the path where text should start.
- Type your text: Type or paste text — it flows along the path.
- Adjust position: Use the Path Selection Tool to drag the start/end markers along the path.
Pro Tips
- Drag the vertical line marker across the path to flip text to the opposite side.
- Edit font, size, and tracking in the Character panel like regular text.
- Use baseline shift to move text closer to or further from the path.
