How to Use Boolean Groups and Shapes

Create two or more overlapping shapes (rectangles, circles, stars, etc.). Position them so they intersect where you want the boolean operation to occur.

Select all the shapes you want to combine. Hold Shift and click each one, or drag a selection box around them all.

In the top toolbar, click the boolean operation icons: Union (combine into one shape), Subtract (cut top shape from bottom), Intersect (keep only overlapping area), or Exclude (remove overlap, keep rest).

Union: Merges shapes into a single outline. Perfect for combining simple shapes into complex icons. The result takes the style of the bottom-most layer.

Subtract: Uses the top shape as a 'cookie cutter' to remove material from the bottom shape. Great for creating cutouts, holes, or custom notches in shapes.

Intersect: Keeps only the area where shapes overlap. Useful for creating custom shapes from the intersection of circles and rectangles.

Exclude: Removes the overlapping area and keeps everything else. Creates a 'donut' effect where shapes intersect. Edit boolean groups anytime by double-clicking to enter and adjust individual shapes.
